Completion

|
With
the welding done, it's time for completing Boomerang. I am mounting
the electronics to the board. This then goes on shock mounts to the
main frame of the bot. |
Here
you see the two IFI controllers and the fuses for the power feeds.
These are great controllers, the guys @ IFI have been great to work
with, No Bull uses the same controllers.
|
Ok here is
some paint close ups, I used 4 cans of primer and 3 cans of black
spray paint for the entire bot. For a final coat I used a spray on-bedliner,
which turned out awesome! A real rough and tough finish, and strong
enough to take some hits! (Look out No-Bull) |
It
took me over 4 days to paint, due to the humid summer we have been
having in Wisconsin. And during the painting my digital camera broke,
so no additional pics! These two are the finished product. |
Mounting the Team Delta
power converter for my radio
receiver. |
| |
| Mounting
the wheels to the finished chassis. Everything went in real nice,
like a glove! I am using 8 inch caster wheels with bearings, and a
1/2 inch lag bolt for the axle. This will give me about 2 inches of
ground clearance. |
A
mess of wires for all the electronics, these will be nice and clean
when everything is tested and running! |
Vacuuming out
all the dirt and dust before we put in the motors and heat everything
up!!! |
Bottom
shot of the chassis and wheels. |

Motors getting
mounted in, almost ready to connect and heat up! When using EV motors
it is important to do a few things to them before you use them, Jon's
site here is great! |

12, 2001 Build Update
Well everything is together, and after checking everything with the
multi-meter we are ready to power it up. I installed the battery hold-down
straps, got my nice Anderson Connectors for the high amp power. |
We have power!
After turning everything on, I went through some visual inspections.
First check and make sure the fans on the Victors are moving, got
signal from the radio (This is the first time Killerbotics has used
the Team Delta power regulators). Everything is peachy, of course
there was some trim adjustment to be made. |
We
are off! It is hard to see, getting a little late! First
thing we noticed, BOOMERANG IS FAST! I am talking real fast, my rough
calculations were the bot would go about 18 MPH, and after movement
we are looking more at 25-27 MPH!!!
|
A
bit too fast for my tastes, but man did it draw the neighbors!
Well after about 30 seconds of use the fuses started blowing, seems
like the EVs are drawing a bit more than 30 amps, so the automotive
fuses are resetting. This was a problem I was worried about, since
I have 4 EV motors per Victor 883, looks like I am going to have to
install Four Victors! |
